My Book Summary

Great Books, Great Reads

Ice by Sarah Beth Durst

May26

Ice” by Sarah Beth Durst is a modern version and twist on the fairy tale East of the Sun and West of the Moon.  I had never heard of that fairy tale before reading this book.  But wow…it makes for a really good read.

The main character is Cassie who is about to turn eighteen and she lives in a research center in Alaska with her father and other researchers.  Cassie is strong willed and independent and she has a clear vision of what she wants to make of her life.  It has been said that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.  There is a lot more to Cassie’s history than she realizes and her father thought that by keeping the truth from her he could protect her.  Cassie is drawn into a world or a reality within the world, and life as she knows it will never be the same.  She is faced with the difficult choice and risk of letting go of the future she imagined for herself for one that might be greater than anything she could have ever imagined.

******I LOVED this book!  It is a magical, beautiful tale of love, sacrifice, honor and hope.  It was so fun to read and it was over too soon!
