During lunch, Auggie had been by himself at a table when all of a sudden he felt quite alone. Auggie saw his classmates laughing and joking together and couldn’t help but wish he could join in on their conversations.  Auggie vowed he was going to face every obstacle and unknown that was in his path. With an increased feeling of determination, he eagerly began this new chapter in his life and left the school premises.

As the days went by, his peers grew accustomed to seeing Auggie at school. Some kept staring or whispering behind his back, but others started to come up to him with sincere interest and politeness. Auggie did not back down, not in spite of the fear that bit him deep below. He informed them that their words and deeds were harmful and improper in a quivering voice. He was shocked to find that the bullies appeared taken aback by his bravery and faltered in their cruel intentions.

Still, there were punishments if you challenged the bullies. After the encounter, Auggie couldn’t shake the feeling of vulnerability that followed him. Auggie vowed not to allow the bullies define or take control of his life, and he was going to triumph over the challenges that lay ahead. Auggie survived through adversity by gathering the strength from his friends and family to carry on.

In spite of the difficulties the bullies presented, Auggie took comfort in his friends’ and family’s steadfast support.
